Most red wines come under this grouping from classic Burgundy and Claret to fruit driven New World reds.

Perfect with most red meat dishes. With steak au poivre or other strong sauces the full bodied section may be more suitable.

39. Merlot 2006 - Hubert de Bouvey (France) £12.95

Big rich plum and damson fruit, soft and very moreish.

40. Chateau Corbin 2003 - Montagne St. Emilion (Bordeaux) £19.00

A beautifully soft plummy wine with an attractive velvety texture. Made from

80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drinking beautifully.

41. Le Pigeoulet des Bruniers 2005 – (France) £15.00

Made by Daniel Brunier of the outstanding Domaine de Vieux Telegraphe –

Chateauneuf du Pape. Rich and succulent with a good hint of spices and herbs.

Low yields have given the wine great concentration.

42. Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru ‘Serpentieres’ 2002 - Domaine Ecard (Burgundy) £35.00

Maurice Ecard is without doubt one of the very best winemakers in Savigny

le Beaune. What makes his wine so special are low yields, attention to detail

in the vineyard and a wonderful pure, cherry fruitiness. Sadly this will be the

last wine of his we will list as the estate has been sold to a large negociant.

“Serpentieres” is Ecard’s finest wine.

43. Nuits St. Georges 2000 – Domaine de L’Arlot (Burgundy) £33.00

Possibly the most famous village/wine in Burgundy. Domaine de L’Arlot are

producing outstanding wines under the leadership of Jean Pierre de Smet.

2000 was a very good vintage as this wine clearly demonstrates.

44. Morey St. Denis 1995 - Domaine Dujac (Burgundy) £54.00

Jacques Seysses is without doubt one of the great winemakers in Burgundy.

Morey St. Denis is a village often overlooked due to its famous neighbours

such as Gevrey Chambertin and Nuits St. Georges and consequently offers

far greater value for money. Delightful fruit bouquet with a lovely fruity palate.

1995 was an outstanding vintage and is now at it's very best.

45. Chateau La Cardonne 1999 – Medoc (Bordeaux) £24.00

Owned by Chateau Lafite, this Chateau offers exceptional value particularly

In a vintage as good as 1999. 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and

5% Cabernet Franc. Stunning wine!

46. Nuits St. Georges 1999 – Domaine Robert Arnoux (Burgundy) £33.00

As we said “above” 1999 was a very good vintage for red Burgundy. There is

Not much left of this outstanding wine, so get in quick!
